Keji's Backyard Ultra 2027

Keji's Backyard Ultra, now in its sixth year, offers an exhilarating challenge for runners who are ready to push their limits on the scenic trails of Keji Provincial Park. This unique race format sees participants completing 6.67-kilometer out-and-back loops every hour starting at 9am sharp until only one runner remains under the one-hour mark.
The event takes place along a picturesque gravel trail that winds through the park's lush forests and offers stunning lake views, making it an ideal setting for runners to enjoy nature while pushing their endurance. Each loop is designed with varying terrain, including gentle climbs of approximately 35 meters per kilometer, providing both challenge and reward.
For those who complete each hour-long segment within the time limit, there's a chance to earn substantial cash prizes based on how far they manage to push beyond the one-hour mark before another runner catches up. The payouts are structured as follows: for distances of 50 yards or less between runners, the winner takes $1500 and their assist earns $500; from 51-75 yards, the prize increases to $2500 with an assistant bonus of $1000; and beyond 76 yards, the grand prize jumps to $5000 along with a generous assist payment of $1500.
Participants can also look forward to some added perks: volunteers from last year's event as well as the top male and female finishers will receive free entries for this year. Additionally, runners are encouraged to consider offsetting their carbon emissions by planting trees through Tree Canada’s Carbon Calculator initiative, promoting sustainability while enjoying the race.
The registration, start, and finish lines all convene at Jim Charles Point parking lot in Keji Provincial Park. The area is conveniently equipped with nearby amenities such as bathrooms just 12 meters away from the starting line and a beach accessible within a short walk of 65 meters. For those needing additional services like dining or shopping, Lakeview Cafe & Eatery can be reached after a scenic drive of approximately 10 kilometers.
Registration policies include generous refund options up to March 1st for 75% refunds and May 15th for 50%, ensuring flexibility in planning your participation. However, deferrals are contingent upon volunteering at either the upcoming Keji Backyard Ultra or Capes 100 event later that summer.
