The Salomon Toboggan Run is an adventurous race that welcomes participants ready to embrace unpredictable trail conditions. Set against the backdrop of St. Margarets Bay, this unique event raises funds for both the local Food Bank and the Safety Minded ATV Association. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate upon registration. The course, which measures 5.8 kilometers in total length with an elevation gain of approximately 150 meters per lap, is a mix of rail trail, logging road, ATV trails, and single track paths. This diverse terrain offers runners the chance to tackle icy patches, snow-covered sections, and muddy stretches while enjoying stunning views along the way. Starting at 9am sharp, each participant has an hour to complete one loop before taking breaks or moving on to subsequent loops every hour until 6pm. Should a runner exceed the one-hour mark for any lap, they are out of contention but can still enjoy the rest of the event as spectators and supporters. The race culminates in a final sprint at 6pm with prizes awarded based on cumulative time. The day is filled with socializing opportunities within the rented ATV Clubhouse where participants have access to indoor facilities for changing clothes, storing belongings, and resting between laps. Warm-up areas are also available to help runners prepare for each new loop under varying conditions. This event challenges athletes not only physically but also in their ability to adapt quickly to ever-changing trail circumstances. With no refunds or deferrals (except through volunteering), the Salomon Toboggan Run is a testament to perseverance and community spirit, inviting all who are prepared for an unconventional yet rewarding running experience on January 16, 2027. Participants should come equipped with appropriate gear such as studded shoes, snowshoes, skis, or hip waders depending on the expected conditions. Additionally, bringing a reusable cup is recommended since water stations will not provide disposable cups to reduce waste.
