Luneburg Trail run 2027

Set against the dramatic landscapes of Lüneburg, Germany, the Lüneburg Trail Run offers an unforgettable 65 km journey through rolling highlands and rugged terrain. Starting at dawn on October 9th from the historic race village beside the town's church, runners will embark on a challenging route that tests both endurance and navigation skills.
The first stretch of the course features a steep ascent to Ncaga Mountain, where misty conditions can make for an atmospheric start. From there, the trail winds through picturesque Pongola Bush before reaching Paardeplaas farm house via rolling cattle paths and farm roads. A long climb follows towards Mandlangampisi Towers, marking the highest point of the race.
The descent from this peak is particularly challenging, following a rocky "dragon’s back" ridge for around 8 km. Runners must exercise caution here to avoid injury on the technical terrain. The route then continues over eMhlongamvula Mountain and along cattle trails before reaching Donkerhoek via jeep tracks.
The final few kilometers offer easier running as runners follow an old tar road back to the finish line at the race village, completing a grueling yet rewarding journey through Lüneburg's stunning countryside. With only five aid stations providing essential supplies along the way, participants must carry their own nutrition and hydration throughout this self-sufficient event.
Registration opens on Friday, October 7th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the race village, with a mandatory briefing scheduled for that evening. The race begins early Saturday morning at 4 am, promising a day of scenic beauty and personal challenge.
Runners must be prepared to navigate through unmarked remote terrain using GPS devices loaded with the official route map.
