Set against the picturesque backdrop of Midmar Dam in KwaZulu-Natal, the Midlands Ultra Triathlon invites endurance enthusiasts to challenge themselves amidst rolling hills and serene waters on October 24, 2027. This iconic race offers a perfect blend of breathtaking scenery and competitive spirit, making it an ideal destination for both serious athletes and those looking to enjoy a weekend getaway.
Participants can choose between the ultra distance with its demanding swim of 1.6km, cycle of 50km, and run of 12km, or the more manageable challenge race featuring an 800m swim, 25km bike ride, and 6km run. The event’s location just a short drive from Johannesburg and Durban ensures easy access for out-of-town competitors.
The Midlands Ultra Triathlon is not only about pushing physical limits but also immersing in the charm of the KZN Midlands region. Enjoy scenic countryside views during cycling segments and take moments to appreciate Midmar Dam's tranquil beauty while running or swimming. The event encourages racers to make a weekend of it, exploring local cafés, craft markets, and country restaurants that offer a taste of authentic South African hospitality.
Race day is supported by comprehensive facilities including race timing chips, medical assistance, safety officers, swim lifeguards, run marshals, and loaded water tables along the course. All participants will receive an iconic finisher medal and are eligible for prize money awards up to R15 000 for overall ultra winners and R10 000 in prizes for challenge race victors.
