The Montane Lakeland 50 & 100

About the Event

The Lakeland 50 & 100 Ultra Trail Long Distance (UTLD) weekend, scheduled for July 23rd - 25th, 2027, promises to be an unparalleled adventure through the rugged beauty of Cumbria's fells. This event is a testament to the majesty and challenge of Britain’s most iconic mountainous terrain.
Competitors in both races will embark on a journey that circles around some of England's most stunning landscapes. The Lakeland 100 route, starting at Coniston, traverses through the heart of the Lake District National Park, covering over 63 kilometers with an impressive elevation gain of approximately 6,300 meters. This challenging course winds its way across a variety of terrain, including bridleways and footpaths that weave through valleys like Eskdale and Wasdale before reaching Keswick.
From there, runners will traverse the Matterdale fells and cross Haweswater Reservoir on their way back to Coniston via Kentmere and Ambleside. The 100-mile route offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and rugged wilderness that challenges even the most experienced trail runners.
For those seeking a more manageable yet equally rewarding experience, the Lakeland 50 event is also available. Starting at Dalemain Estate north of Pooley Bridge, this race covers about half the distance with an ascent of around 31 kilometers over rolling hills and through picturesque valleys before reaching Coniston.
Both events feature stunning vistas, from serene lakes to towering crags and sweeping moors that change dramatically throughout the weekend as runners progress. Participants will experience a range of conditions, including steep climbs and technical descents, making this an unforgettable test for both body and spirit.
Registration opens on September 1st, 2026, at 9:00 AM, giving trail running enthusiasts ample time to prepare for what promises to be one of the most memorable races in the UK. Participants can opt to purchase XCover insurance, ensuring they have a safety net should unforeseen circumstances prevent them from taking part.
This event is not just about pushing personal limits; it's an opportunity to immerse oneself in the timeless beauty and rich history of the Lake District while connecting with fellow trail runners who share a passion for endurance sports.
