SUGARBUSH SHENANIGANS

Part of the OUTRace Series, this unique ultra-marathon takes place at Sugarbush Vineyard in Prince Edward County, Ontario. The race offers runners three options: solo 6-hour, 12-hour, and 24-hour runs or a relay team for the full 24 hours. Additionally, there's a special 12-Hour Night Race starting at 9 PM on Saturday.
The course is a flat and non-technical loop that measures approximately 3 kilometers in length. Half of it winds through a private wooded trail while the other half follows an open meadow around the vineyard itself. Participants can download a GPX file to plan their route, but they should be aware of potential loud noises from neighboring vineyards using "bird bang" audio recordings.
Registration for bib pick-up begins on Friday evening at 5:30 PM and continues through Saturday morning starting at 7:30 AM. Start times vary based on the race type, with all races beginning at 9 AM except for the night race which starts at 9 PM.
The event emphasizes self-sufficiency, as runners are responsible for recording their loops manually at a timing tent located near the course. While there is no official chip tracking system to keep costs low, participants must ensure that each loop they complete is recorded accurately or risk having unaccounted laps.
Awards will be given based on accumulated kilometers in both solo and relay categories. Prizes include sustainable and unique items for top finishers as well as a group prize for the relay team with the most loops completed.
For overnight camping, runners can set up tents at Sugarbush Vineyard starting Friday evening before the race begins. However, campers must bring their own water since there are no on-site hookups available. Participants will have access to porta potties and hand-washing stations but no showers or change rooms during this event.
Support is provided through a designated crew tent area where runners can set up drop bags and rest between loops. Pacers may join after 11 PM, though they must sign a waiver at bib pick-up first. A yoga space will also be available to help participants stretch out before and after their runs.
Aid stations along the route offer water, snacks, hot food like grilled cheese sandwiches and pierogies, as well as late-night Fireball Sangria for those 18 years or older. The event is a cupless affair, so runners are encouraged to bring reusable bottles or hydration systems with them.
Sustainability efforts include waste reduction initiatives where participants can help by sorting trash from recyclables properly during the race weekend. Various sponsors will be on-site providing products and services including yoga sessions, medical samples, strength patches, coffee, baked goods, and functional beverages for all attendees.
