Stride for Shelter

Stride for Shelter is an inaugural endurance challenge that aims to raise funds and awareness for youth experiencing homelessness in Stratford. Partnering with Shelterlink Youth Services, Perth County’s local organization dedicated to supporting homeless and at-risk youth, Stride for Shelter seeks to make a tangible impact on the lives of vulnerable young people.
Scheduled for November 21 through November 22 from 8am until 10am the following day, participants will gather at Stratford Education and Recreation Centre (SERC) where they can sign in starting at 8 am. Over this 24-hour period, individuals are encouraged to run or walk a loop of approximately two kilometers every hour on the hour.
This event is more than just a physical challenge; it’s an opportunity for community members to come together and support those who need it most. By participating in Stride for Shelter, runners will experience firsthand what it might be like for homeless youth during cold winter nights while raising essential funds through peer-to-peer fundraising efforts. With a goal of $35,000 set in celebration of Shelterlink’s 35th anniversary, every loop and stride taken contributes to making a real difference.
Mayor Martin Ritsma has shown his support by endorsing the event, highlighting its importance for community engagement around youth homelessness issues. Stride for Shelter offers not only physical challenges but also an environment rich with solidarity, resilience, and mutual aid among participants.
Registration fees are $50 per person, which includes access to all facilities at SERC during the event period as well as a sense of pride in contributing towards such a worthy cause.
