About the Event

Spring into action at the inaugural Spring in Lakeland 50, hosted by the Lakeland Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) on April 10, 2027. This ambitious 50-mile challenge begins and ends in Coniston, a picturesque Cumbrian village known for its stunning scenery and rich history.
The route starts at John Ruskin School in Coniston where free parking is available to all participants. The first half of the journey mirrors the popular Spring in Lakeland 24 event, weaving through Ambleside via Tarn Hows and Oxen Fell before a challenging ascent back into Coniston over Loughrigg Terrace and Tilberthwaite.
For those tackling the full 50 miles, after returning to Coniston you'll venture into lesser-known territory—the serene Duddon Valley. This section offers breathtaking views of Scafell Pike against rolling hills and quaint villages like Broughton in Furness. The route includes a tough climb up Walna Scar before descending through valleys back towards Coniston Water.
Participants will enjoy camping and showers at John Ruskin School on the Saturday night, providing essential rest for this demanding journey. However, note that dogs are not permitted due to peak lambing season in the Lake District.
The event rules emphasize safety with mandatory kit requirements including a GPS tracker for 50-mile participants, ensuring everyone stays on course and receives support at checkpoints along the way. With elevations reaching up to 600 meters, this is an adventure that rewards those prepared for varied terrain and weather conditions typical of early spring in Cumbria.
Join the LDWA as a member now or by December 1st to secure your spot and take on this epic journey through some of England's most inspiring landscapes.
