MTC Cotswold Ultra 2026

The Cotswold Ultra, the first leg of The Thames Challenge, invites runners to embark on an exhilarating journey through some of England's most picturesque landscapes. Participants must arrive at Kemble Station between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM for registration and equipment checks before setting off with a race briefing at 7:00 AM.
The route begins with a trek from Kemble Station along the Thames Path to its source, offering runners an intimate look at where this iconic river originates. After retracing their steps back to Wysis Way, competitors continue through Neigh Bridge Country Park and on to Manor Ho, crossing over several bridges that span the tranquil waters of the early stages of the Thames.
As you make your way towards Lower Mill Nature Reserve, Aston Keynes will come into view before reaching Cricklade, marking the first township along this historic path. The route then veers away from the river briefly as it passes through Castle Eaton village and Blackford Farm, only to rejoin the Thames just before Lechlade.
From here, runners are treated to a series of meanders, charming bridges, and locks that add character and beauty to each step taken along this iconic waterway. The journey continues past Shifford Lock and Newbridge until reaching Bablock Hythe, where the Cotswold Ultra concludes at Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road.
Participants must be fully self-sufficient throughout their run, carrying essential items such as a backpack or equivalent bag, head torch with spare batteries, an OS map (or our downloadable maps), compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and first aid kit to ensure safety during this challenging yet rewarding adventure.
