Driffield Showground hosts an epic 32-mile endurance race that challenges runners to complete the course within a grueling 12-hour timeframe. The event begins at dawn, with registration opening promptly at 6:30 am and the mass start scheduled for 8:00 am sharp.
Competitors will find ample free parking space available right on site, guided by helpful marshals who ensure smooth traffic flow to the Showground. Basic camping facilities are also provided for those who wish to arrive early; these spaces cost just £5 per person and are open from Friday at 4:00 pm through Sunday morning until 11:00 am.
The race route, which traverses a mix of public paths and some private land, is meticulously planned but not fully recceable beforehand. A detailed map (O/S Explorer 294/295/300) along with a compass will be essential navigation tools for the day. Participants must also pack waterproof gear, first aid supplies, survival bags, and an insulated mug to ensure hydration at designated checkpoints.
Checkpoints are strategically placed throughout the course, offering food and drink options that cater specifically to vegetarians but do not accommodate other dietary restrictions. These stations operate on strict opening and closing times, so it's crucial for runners to stay aware of their schedules to avoid disqualification or delays.
Upon reaching the finish line, all participants will be greeted with a badge and certificate as well as a hearty meal to celebrate their achievement. The race organizers emphasize that retirements must occur only at checkpoints; no self-initiated withdrawals are allowed along the route.
To ensure safety and fair play, runners must carry specific minimum kit including essential navigation tools like maps and compasses, plus crucial survival items such as waterproof clothing and first aid kits. Withdrawals are permitted up until March 13, 2027, with refunds issued minus an administrative fee; however, any cancellations after that date result in forfeiture of the entry fee due to incurred event costs. No transfers or deferrals will be accommodated under these circumstances.
