Wainwright Runners Backyard Ultra 2027

Step into the heart of Wainwright at Splash Park for an unforgettable endurance challenge: the Wainwright Backyard Ultra, set to unfold on May 8, 2027. This unique race invites runners to tackle a grueling loop of 6.7 kilometers every hour until either all participants have dropped out or the clock strikes the 100-mile mark after 24 hours. With a cap of just 50 racers, this event promises an intimate and supportive atmosphere where camaraderie thrives alongside competition.
The race begins at Wainwright Splash Park, offering runners easy access to flush toilets and grassy areas for setting up camp with folding chairs provided by the organizers. The course itself is predominantly hard surfaces including asphalt paths and sidewalks, making it a fast but challenging route as you navigate around town. While there are no official aid stations, participants can rely on fellow racers or their crews for support.
Registration fees include a donation of $20 to Wainwright Pound, supporting local animal welfare efforts with additional pet supplies welcome at the finish line. As dawn breaks and night falls, runners will push through relentless loops under starlit skies or early morning mist, vying not just against each other but also their own limits.
The winner is crowned as the last person standing, while second place goes to whoever completes the final lap fastest if more than two racers remain in contention. This event celebrates perseverance and community spirit, inviting all runners from beginners to seasoned ultramarathon enthusiasts to partake in this thrilling adventure through Wainwright's streets.
