Embark on an enchanting journey through the picturesque landscapes of Hertfordshire with the inaugural Stort Valley Challenge. This unique route traces a punctured figure eight, weaving its way along the tranquil River Stort and passing through charming villages steeped in history. The race begins at St John's Church Hall in Stansted Mountfichet (GR TL 512250), where participants will set off on a challenging yet rewarding 25-mile course. The route takes runners across the historic village of Manuden, known for its medieval charm and serene beauty. Further along, it ventures to Braughing, an ancient iron age settlement that offers a glimpse into Britain’s rich prehistoric heritage. The race starts at staggered intervals: walkers from 8:00 am, faster walkers at 8:30 am, and runners at 9:00 am, ensuring all participants have ample time to complete the distance by the finish line at 5:00 pm. Along the way, there are two indoor checkpoints where refreshments await—hot drinks and snacks will be available at both mile 14 and 21, with a mid-race snack station set up at mile 9. Participants can look forward to enjoying hot or cold beverages upon starting and hearty meals upon finishing. Each finisher will receive a certificate as a testament to their achievement. The entry limit is strictly capped at 180 runners to ensure an intimate race experience, with entries closing on December 27th, 2026, or earlier if the cap is reached. Entry fees cover all refreshments and meals throughout the event. It’s important to note that there are no refunds after December 27th unless the event itself is cancelled. Additionally, participants must be at least 16 years old; those under 18 need a responsible adult accompanying them for safety reasons. Dogs are not permitted on this trail due to its varied terrain and checkpoints. This race promises an unforgettable blend of historical exploration and physical challenge amidst some of England’s most captivating scenery.
