The Sundowner Triathlon returns to Allerthorpe Lakeland Park for its second consecutive year, set to take place on September 11, 2027. Building upon the success and lessons learned from last year’s inaugural event, organizers have made improvements to ensure an even more enjoyable experience for participants. The park's man-made lake offers a calm and clear open water setting for swimming, with depths ranging between five and seven feet. The course is sheltered from winds, ensuring smooth conditions regardless of weather forecasts. Cyclists will navigate flat country lanes within the park and surrounding villages on a non-draft legal route that sees minimal traffic but plenty of supportive spectators. Runners can expect to circle around the lake on a picturesque trail designed for spectator viewing. Competitors have several distance options: - Sprint Triathlon: A manageable 750m swim, followed by a 20km bike ride and concluding with a 5km run.
- Olympic Distance: The traditional choice of 1.5 km swim, 45 km cycle, and a 10 km run. - 70.3 Triathlon: For those seeking an extended challenge, this half Ironman distance includes a 1900m swim, 90km bike ride, and a grueling 21km run. Relay teams can also participate in the Olympic or 70.3 distances, splitting tasks among team members to achieve their best times collaboratively. Additionally, there are Aquabike and Aquathlon options for those who prefer not to include running or cycling. Registration will open on Friday from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM with Saturday registration starting at noon and closing by the afternoon. Racking begins early in the morning, giving participants ample time to prepare before their respective start times ranging from mid-morning through late afternoon based on distance. All events are designed to be spectator-friendly, ensuring that friends and family can cheer on competitors throughout each leg of the race. The athlete village offers a range of amenities including free car parking, changing facilities, medical support, complimentary photography services, bike mechanic assistance, well-stocked aid stations, chip-timed results, and more. Participants must hold valid British Triathlon membership or purchase a single-use Race Pass when registering to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Detailed start times and other logistics will be communicated via email prior to the event date. Join us for an unforgettable day of competition and camaraderie at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park, where every participant can enjoy the beauty of the countryside while challenging themselves against their personal bests.
