In early August 2027, runners are invited to experience the historic charm and scenic beauty of Sion, nestled within Switzerland's Canton of Valais. This quaint city, one of the oldest in the country, offers an enchanting backdrop for a weekend filled with running, cycling, hiking, and festivities celebrating Swiss National Day.
The highlight is the Valais Running event, featuring two flat and paved courses: 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers. These routes are perfect for runners looking to set personal bests without worrying about elevation changes or technical trail conditions. The race takes place on a unique course nicknamed "Loop of the Sédunois Bridges," which winds through seven picturesque bridges and walkways, offering runners stunning views along the Rhône River.
Starting at 7 PM sharp, participants will enjoy an evening run that transitions into nightfall as they circle back towards downtown Sion. The atmosphere is lively with tourists and athletes alike contributing to a vibrant community spirit. After crossing the finish line adorned with medals, runners can explore more of this historic city, home to two prominent castles: Valère and Tourbillon.
For those traveling with families or seeking additional activities, there are numerous options in the surrounding area. The natural orchards of Bramois provide an opportunity for a leisurely stroll through lush greenery, while the medieval village of Saillon offers glimpses into Switzerland's rich history. Additionally, visitors can relax by walking along the banks of the Borgne River.
