Join us on January 16th at Long Point Eco Adventures for an unforgettable winter trail race along the shores of Lake Erie. This dog-friendly event offers distances ranging from 5k to 25k, including canicross options that cater to both runners and their furry companions. The route winds through single and double track trails covered in snow, featuring climbs and rollers that make each loop unique and challenging. Participants will experience the serene beauty of winter landscapes while enjoying the camaraderie with friends and fellow racers. This event welcomes all levels of runners and walkers, providing a fun-filled day for both humans and their canine companions. Polar Paws is partnering once again with the Simcoe District Humane Society to donate part of the registration fees towards helping animals in need. For those participating with dogs, separate waves are scheduled, allowing your four-legged friends to enjoy their own special swag. New this year, canicross categories (5k and 10k) will require a specific harness, bungie leash, and must be kept on a non-retractable leash no longer than six feet throughout the race. Safety is paramount at Polar Paws; ensure your dog is properly equipped for cold weather conditions. Aggressive dogs are not allowed but reactive dogs are welcome with appropriate signage or yellow pinnies to alert others of their needs. The event takes place in a picturesque location, approximately two hours southwest of Toronto near Turkey Point on the shores of Lake Erie. With ample parking available and indoor facilities including washrooms, showers, and post-race amenities, participants can enjoy all that Long Point Eco Adventures has to offer. Aid stations will be set up at the start/finish area with water, electrolytes, and snacks for racers. Participants must bring their own reusable drinking vessels due to the event's cupless policy. All finishers registered by December 19th are guaranteed a handcrafted soap from Sue’s Soap Creations and a bottle of Florio Family Sugarbush Maple Syrup. Dogs will also receive a tin of Paw Balm for paw protection, while top overall male, female, non-binary runners in each category, as well as the dogs, will be awarded medals. Post-race festivities include chili with meat and veggie options along with your choice of beer or non-alcoholic beverages from Wishbone. The Marshview building provides a heated indoor area for registration, washrooms, showers, awards ceremonies, and food services. Registration is available on-site in the Marshview Building starting at 8:15 am until 9:15 am. Make sure to bring your own traction devices if conditions necessitate it; snowshoes are not allowed during the race itself. Accommodations for Friday or Saturday nights can be arranged with a discount available when booking both nights, offering participants a comfortable stay before and after their adventure.
