The Longest Night Run is an annual community gathering held on the Winter Solstice, marking the longest night of the year. This poignant vigil takes place on December 21st when darkness envelops southern Manitoba for nearly sixteen hours straight. Participants come together to remember loved ones who have passed and to support those currently facing challenging times in their lives.
The event celebrates resilience and unity as runners, walkers, cyclists, and others traverse through the night's longest shadows. By moving through the darkness collectively, participants transform a potentially isolating experience into one of shared strength and solidarity. The route winds through illuminated paths and neighborhoods, creating a beacon of light against the backdrop of winter’s deep twilight.
Since its inception as a symbolic act to support a friend battling cancer, the Longest Night Run has grown in significance over eight years. In 2025, it continued to raise awareness and funds for local organizations dedicated to health care and community support: Eden Health, Agape House, and Steinbach Family Resource Centre.
Join us on December 21st as we honor those who have been lost while providing hope and encouragement to others navigating their own battles. The Longest Night Run is more than just a race; it’s an opportunity for connection and collective empowerment in the face of adversity.

Steinbach is the third-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada, and with a population of 17,806, the largest community in the Eastman region. The city, located about 58 km (36 mi) southeast of the provincial capital of Winnipeg, is bordered by the Rural Municipality of Hanover to the north, west, and south, and the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie to the east. Steinbach was first settled by Plautdietsch-speaking Mennonites from Ukraine in 1874, whose descendants continue to have a significant presence in the city today.
