Great Owl Running is proud to present the Kirkstall Calverley Cutter and Kirkstall Bridge 10km races, offering runners an immersive experience along the Leeds Liverpool Canal and River Aire. The main attraction is the challenging 16km trail race that winds through picturesque landscapes, including the daunting yet captivating Calverley Cutting. For those looking for a more straightforward course, the Kirkstall Bridge 10km offers a fast and flat out-and-back route along the canal, ideal for all skill levels. Both races start just steps away from the charming Kirkstall Bridge Inn in Leeds, providing runners with a cozy atmosphere before heading into the crisp January air. Participants will navigate through scenic public footpaths and riverside trails, fully marked and marshalled to ensure safety throughout their run. The route follows the historic Leeds Liverpool Canal, offering breathtaking views of waterways and lush greenery along the way. Due to ongoing flood relief efforts on the River Aire, there may be slight course adjustments closer to race day. Registration takes place at Kirkstall Bridge Inn from 10:00 AM, with both races starting promptly at 11:00 AM. The event accommodates up to 250 runners and requires participants to be aged 18 or older. Race facilities include toilets and bag storage options for added convenience. Runners can also take advantage of optional extras such as personalized medals and t-shirts, which are available for purchase ahead of time through the registration process. This allows individuals to tailor their race experience while reducing waste and maintaining entry costs at a minimum. Competitors in the Kirkstall Calverley Cutter must come prepared with essential items: a windproof or waterproof jacket is mandatory due to unpredictable winter weather conditions, ensuring runners stay warm if they encounter any difficulties during the run. Additionally, participants are encouraged to bring their own water containers since Great Owl Running events do not provide disposable cups. The event boasts impressive course records set by Thomas Hodgeson with an outstanding time of 01:00:45 in 2026 and Stella Cross at a commendable 01:12:26 in 2023, setting the bar high for this year's participants. Join us for a day filled with stunning scenery, friendly competition, and memorable moments along Kirkstall Bridge.
