2026 Larry Nicholas 8.2K Trail Run

About the Event

Honoring Legacy: The Larry Nicholas Memorial Trail Race
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Kelowna Running Club and Interior Running Association will host the Larry Nicholas Memorial Trail Run at Mission Creek Regional Park. This annual event celebrates its 37th year as a tribute to Larry Nicholas, an avid athlete who passed away while rock climbing in the mid-1980s. Supported by his family, this race continues to honor his passion for running and outdoor adventures.
The main attraction is an 8.2K run that winds through Mission Creek Park's scenic trails over three loops. Participants will start with a short gravel trail stretch before encountering a steep climb early in the course. The route then descends back towards the start line, offering runners stunning views of the park’s natural beauty throughout their journey.
This year marks a special twist as the race runs in reverse order to commemorate Andy Daley, another beloved member who passed away earlier this year. His love for trail running and adventure inspired organizers to run the course backward, encouraging participants to embrace new challenges while enjoying Kelowna's picturesque landscapes.
The event also includes a Kids Fun Run at approximately 11:15 am with two distance options—600m or 2.2km—to engage young runners in this meaningful tradition.
Registration for adult racers closes on October 31, 2026, at 6:00 pm, and participants must use their legal names to ensure proper insurance coverage. Bib pick-up will be available from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on race day, allowing ample time for runners to familiarize themselves with the course layout.
Prizes are awarded to top male and female finishers as well as age group winners in five-year increments. Mission Creek Regional Park is located at 2363 Springfield Road (intersection of Springfield and Durnin Roads), providing easy access from Kelowna’s urban center into a serene natural setting.
Parking options include street parking on Durnin Road, but cars parked along Springfield Road may be ticketed due to limited space. Participants are encouraged to carpool or arrive early to secure their preferred spot.
The race is self-supported, so runners should bring any necessary hydration and fuel for the course. Join us as we celebrate Larry Nicholas’s legacy while fostering a sense of community among trail running enthusiasts in Kelowna.
