The Great Barrow Challenge invites runners of all levels to experience an unforgettable 10-day running festival at Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road, Bury St Edmunds (IP29 5AX). Each day offers unique routes and distances ranging from the invigorating 5k and 10k options to more ambitious half marathon, full marathon, or ultra-marathon challenges. On Day Eight of this exciting series, runners will tackle the Mill Wind Half Route—a scenic loop that takes participants out into the countryside before returning to the Suffolk Running Centre. This route measures a total distance of 21.1 kilometers (or approximately 13.1 miles), with competitors completing one or more loops depending on their chosen event category: half marathon, full marathon, or ultra-marathon. The terrain is entirely road-based and features some elevation changes, including climbs up to 213 meters in height while navigating from the lowest point at 49 meters above sea level. The route's dynamic landscape provides both challenging ascents and rewarding descents for runners seeking a memorable experience. Participants will enjoy well-marked courses with water/aid stations conveniently located along the way, ensuring that hydration needs are met throughout their journey. Additionally, each day concludes with the presentation of bespoke medals to all finishers at Race HQ/Base Camp, celebrating every runner's achievement and dedication. Parking is included in your entry fee for this event, making it easier than ever to join us on August 5th, 2027, without worrying about transportation logistics. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we encourage runners to bring their own reusable bottles or cups instead of disposable ones. Please note that dogs and buggies are not permitted due to the open road nature of this event, ensuring a safe environment for all participants. Headphones other than bone conductors are also discouraged in order to maintain awareness of your surroundings. For those unable to join us on site but still wishing to participate, virtual entry options are available through Zig Zag Running's website and shop section. Join the Great Barrow Challenge and be part of a community celebrating endurance, camaraderie, and personal achievement along picturesque Suffolk landscapes.
