The Great Barrow Challenge invites runners of all levels to experience an unforgettable 10-day running series at Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road, Bury St Edmunds, IP29 5AX. Each day offers unique routes and distances for participants to choose from, allowing individuals the flexibility to tailor their race according to personal preferences. On Day Ten specifically, runners will embark on a challenging half marathon course known as Hargrave Half Route at Mount Barrow. This single-loop route spans an impressive distance of 21.3 kilometers, covering quiet lanes with minimal traffic for a serene and scenic run. The elevation profile includes 183 meters of ascent, adding to the physical challenge but also offering stunning views along the way. Participants can opt to complete one loop for the half marathon or extend their journey by doubling it up for a full marathon distance. Ultra runners have the opportunity to push even further with two loops plus additional options at turnpoints for 5k and 10k distances, providing ample challenge and flexibility in route choice. The Mount Barrow course itself is an out-and-back route measuring 10.5 kilometers (6.5 miles) from the campsite, featuring a consistent road surface throughout with significant climbs totaling 168 meters over varied elevations ranging between high points of 89 meters and low points at 48 meters. Race HQ and Base Camp will be centrally located at both start/finish lines where participants can access water stations and other essential aid. A key feature is the bespoke medal awarded to all finishers each day, celebrating their achievement in style. To ensure a sustainable event environment, please remember that no disposable cups are provided; bring your own reusable bottles or containers for hydration. Safety measures include restrictions on dogs and buggies due to open road conditions as well as guidelines prohibiting headphones except bone conduction devices, ensuring awareness of surroundings at all times during the run. For those unable to join in person but still wish to participate virtually, visit Zig Zag Running's website shop section to register for a virtual entry. This event promises not only physical exertion but also an engaging atmosphere with fellow runners and supportive volunteers along every step of your chosen route. Join us on August 07, 2027, as we celebrate the final day of this epic running series at Suffolk Running Centre!
