The Winter X: A Mid-Winter Trail Adventure Brimming with the spirit of exploration and endurance, The Winter X invites trail runners to venture through the picturesque Meon Valley. This mid-winter challenge offers an array of distances, catering to both casual joggers and seasoned ultrarunners. Participants can choose from four distinct routes: - 10km: A straightforward journey along a flat old railway line that stretches northward to West Meon before returning via the same path.
- 30km: Expanding on the 10km route, this option includes an additional leg eastwards along the South Downs Way towards the Sustainability Centre. - 50km: This moderate distance course combines all three previous legs, adding a westward stretch that winds through Beacon Hill and down to Holden Farm via the South Downs Way. - 70km: For those seeking a full day’s adventure, this complete circuit includes all four directions: north, east, south (returning on an old railway line), and west. Each leg presents unique terrain and scenery, ensuring runners experience diverse landscapes throughout their journey. Throughout the event, key checkpoints are strategically placed to provide rest and resupply opportunities. The central hub at Meon Hall offers a base for all participants, while additional support points can be found at Holden Farm, Sustainability Centre, and Wickham. These locations allow competitors to store personal gear or grab necessary supplies as they progress through their chosen distance. The Winter X is meticulously marked with arrows, tape, flour, flags, and an up-to-date .gpx file available for download ahead of the race day, ensuring runners stay on track amidst the winter beauty of Meon Valley.
