This Category BM race spans 14 kilometers with a grueling elevation gain of 650 meters, making it no easy feat for even seasoned runners.
The event begins at East Chevin Road in Otley, where participants are immediately greeted by the infamous Chevin Steps—a steep ascent that leads straight to Surprise View. From there, competitors face relentless climbs and descents through rugged terrain, including Danefield Climb and Poolscar Wood. The route also includes a climb up Fells Plantation’s Power Lines before runners tackle Miller Lane for their final push.
Chevin's course is marked with checkpoints, but basic navigational skills are essential due to the varied paths leading to each point. Participants will encounter several water stations along the way, including one crucial checkpoint at Danefield that serves as a mandatory hydration stop and cut-off point after 70 minutes for those on the full We Need To Talk About Chevin course.
For runners seeking a slightly less daunting challenge, there’s also the Category BS race covering 9 kilometers with an elevation gain of 390 meters. This route follows many of the same scenic paths but omits some of the more punishing climbs and descents found in its longer counterpart.
