Watchet Mariner 10k

On March 6, 2027, the inaugural Watchet Mariner Run invites you to embark on an unforgettable journey through Somerset’s picturesque landscapes. Organized by The Minehead Running Club and part of the Somerset Series, this 10k event starts and finishes at The Esplanade in Watchet, where a statue of the Ancient Mariner stands as both a starting point and finish line.
The race begins with runners passing through the charming streets of Watchet before heading onto the disused Old Mineral Line railway path. This flat and fast section runs parallel to the West Somerset Steam Railway all the way to Washford. From there, participants tackle narrow country lanes that offer breathtaking views over Exmoor, Quantock Hills, and the Bristol Channel.
The final stretch features a thrilling descent from the cliff tops along B3191, leading back to The Esplanade for what organizers claim is one of Somerset’s fastest finishes. Along the way, runners must navigate trip hazards and be mindful of pedestrians and dog walkers while adhering to local traffic regulations.
All proceeds benefit The Watchet Conservation Society, which supports various conservation projects in the area. Race day includes free T-shirts with early registration and medals for all finishers. Entry fees are £19 for UKA/ARC affiliated runners or £21 for unaffiliated runners until February 28th; entry on race day costs £25.
Participants will enjoy well-marked routes, water stations at key points, and first aid support available at Washford and the finish line. The Phoenix Centre serves as Race HQ where bibs can be collected by 9:45 am and refreshments are provided post-race.
