Trans Baviaans 2027

Immerse yourself in one of South Africa's most challenging and scenic mountain biking adventures, where breathtaking landscapes meet unparalleled endurance testing. Since its inception in 2004, this iconic team-based marathon has captivated the hearts of cycling enthusiasts with its unique format and unforgettable wilderness setting. Teams comprising two to four cyclists navigate through the exquisite Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its dramatic mountain ranges and rugged terrain.
The race starts at 10:00 AM, ensuring that participants will encounter both daylight and nighttime riding conditions. The unmarked course challenges each rider's navigation skills, fostering teamwork and camaraderie as teams must check in and out of strategically placed checkpoints along the route. This format not only tests physical endurance but also mental resilience, especially during night-time segments where lights are a necessity.
With its focus on rideability and unique enjoyment, this event stands apart from conventional mountain bike races. The Baviaanskloof's diverse landscapes provide an ever-changing backdrop of stunning vistas and challenging trails that cater to both seasoned pros and enthusiastic amateurs alike. As the first 10 teams cross the finish line under a night sky illuminated by fireworks, each participant is greeted with a commemorative medal, marking their achievement in this unforgettable adventure.
