The Lucky Horseshoe Race offers runners of all levels an unforgettable experience at Suffolk Running Centre, located on Church Road in Bury St Edmunds. This unique race features multiple distance options—5k, 10k, half marathon, full marathon, and ultra distances—all starting simultaneously at 9am with a generous seven-hour cutoff time. The course is a scenic out-and-back route that blends road and trail sections for an engaging challenge. Runners will start on familiar lanes through Denham and Dalham before venturing onto the Newmarket gallops and heath for about one-third of their journey, where they'll encounter varied terrain including quiet tarmac roads and open trails. Participants in shorter distances like 5k, 10k, and half marathon will turn around at designated points to retrace their steps back to the start. The full marathon runners complete a single out-and-back loop, while ultra-distance competitors continue beyond this point, adding an extra layer of challenge for those aiming higher. Aid stations are strategically placed every 10 kilometers along the route, offering hydration and snacks to keep you fueled throughout your run. Race HQ is set up at both the start/finish area and a lap point where runners can access water and aid supplies during their race. All participants will receive a specially designed finisher's medal upon completion of their chosen distance, celebrating their achievement in style. Alternatively, those who opt for the lucky dip option may choose from an array of previous or current year’s medals available at base camp. To ensure safety on open roads, dogs and buggies are not permitted along this route. Additionally, runners must refrain from using headphones except bone conduction devices to stay aware of their surroundings while enjoying the race atmosphere.
