The Drop - Birmingham

About the Event

The Drop is an exhilarating navigation challenge that strips away all familiar elements of racing, leaving only uncertainty and self-reliance. Participants are taken to a secret location with no maps or navigational aids and must find their own way back to the finish line.
Choose from three distinct challenges:
The 10-Mile and 15-Mile Drops: Both versions drop participants at an undisclosed starting point, either ten miles or fifteen miles away from the event center. These distances are measured as "as-the-crow-flies," meaning your actual route will be much longer due to terrain and decision-making factors.
The 15-mile option is more challenging, offering a greater test of endurance and strategic thinking over an extended period. The 10-mile drop provides a similar experience but in a shorter timeframe, giving participants the chance to navigate through intense pressure without as much physical strain.
Drop 6: Exclusive for non-locals who are unfamiliar with the area's geography, this six-mile challenge ensures that all runners face the same level of uncertainty. Regularly training or living locally disqualifies you from participating in Drop 6, ensuring fairness among competitors.
Upon registration, entrants hand over their electronic devices and navigational aids to organizers and receive a race number along with an emergency bag sealed for the duration of the event. Participants board buses wearing blindfolds (or approved alternatives) and are dropped off at undisclosed locations where they must make immediate decisions on how to navigate back.
The challenge begins when participants remove their blindfolds, starting the clock as they set out alone without any maps or GPS assistance. The journey home is entirely up to each runner's ingenuity and determination.
Key features of The Drop include:
- No Maps: Runners must rely solely on instinct and natural navigation.
- Self-Sufficiency: Participants are completely independent once dropped off, with no help from organizers until they reach the finish line.
- Blindfold Deployment: Ensures that every participant starts in a state of disorientation.
Live GPS tracking is available for an additional fee. This feature allows friends and family to follow your progress on their devices using a unique login provided by event staff days before the race begins, adding another layer of engagement and excitement for spectators.
The Drop isn’t just about reaching the finish line; it’s about embracing uncertainty and pushing personal boundaries in one of nature's most challenging settings. Are you ready to test yourself against this formidable challenge?
