The Calderdale Hike

Experience the rugged beauty of Calderdale's Pennine valleys on April 10, 2027. This annual event, established since 1979, invites walkers and runners to traverse through breathtaking moors with panoramic views stretching across the landscape. Participants will face challenging ascents and descents as they navigate from one peak to another.
The race offers three routes: a long 35-mile trek with over 5500 feet of ascent, a medium 24-mile course featuring 3800 feet of elevation gain, and a shorter 17-mile route that climbs nearly 2700 feet. Each journey starts at Sowerby St Peter's Cricket Club, where registration and kit checks take place.
Given the harsh terrain, organizers recommend participants have strong navigation skills, particularly if faced with adverse weather conditions. The event supports local youth through donations to 24th St Paul’s Scouts.
Participants must complete their chosen route by 8pm, with start times varying from 7:00 AM for long-distance walkers to 9:00 AM for runners on all routes. A mandatory kit check is held an hour before each departure.
The event costs £25 per individual or £90 for a team of four and includes free parking at Ryburn School, located just across the road from the starting point.
For added peace of mind, participants can opt to purchase XCover insurance, allowing them to receive refunds in case of unexpected cancellations. Join this unique challenge that blends physical endurance with scenic beauty.
