Summer Canal Canter 2027

About the Event

The Summer Canal Canter offers runners a scenic and flat course along Devon's Grand Western Canal in Tiverton. Participants can choose between a half marathon or a 10k, both featuring picturesque canal paths lined with lush greenery and historic bridges. The half marathon route spans approximately 6.6 miles each way from the start at Tiverton Canal Basin to Sampford Peverell before turning back, while the 10k reaches just past Tiverton Bridge car park for its turnaround point.
Both races are designed on hard-packed gravel paths with minimal elevation gain—90 feet for the half marathon and 45 feet for the 10k. The event takes place on July 31, 2027, starting at 8:30 AM for the half marathon and 9:00 AM for the 10k. All finishers receive a bespoke "Summer Canal Canter" medal with a new design each year.
Entry fees are £35 for affiliated runners and £37 for unaffiliated participants in the half marathon, while the 10k costs £22 for affiliated runners and £24 for those who are unaffiliated. Runners must be at least 18 years old to compete in the half marathon and 16 years or older for the 10k event.
All profits from the race will go towards supporting "The Friends of The Grand Western Canal," ensuring that this scenic route remains a cherished part of Tiverton's landscape.
