This flexible and inclusive event invites runners to blast off between 8am and 9:30am on a journey through the forest’s winding paths, with a scenic out-and-back route that stretches from 5K up to ultra-marathon distances.
Participants can choose their own adventure, looping back along the well-maintained hardstanding track as many times as they wish until the event concludes at 3pm. The course offers breathtaking views and moments of solitude among nature’s beauty, making it a perfect backdrop for runners looking to challenge themselves or simply enjoy the great outdoors.
Bag drop facilities are provided at Hospital Services cricket club clubhouse near the start/finish line, ensuring that all participants can focus on their run without worrying about personal belongings. The event also features a space-themed aid station where you’ll find refreshments and snacks inspired by Bowie’s iconic songs, along with essential supplies for your journey.
While trail shoes are recommended to enhance grip and comfort during longer distances, they aren’t mandatory due to the track's solid surface. Runners can adorn themselves in cosmic or David Bowie-inspired attire if desired; however, this is entirely optional as you celebrate the spirit of adventure and creativity that defines both space exploration and Bowie’s legacy.
Upon crossing the finish line, every participant will receive a specially crafted medal designed with elements from one of Bowie's most famous songs. This keepsake commemorates your achievement and marks your successful completion of 'Space Oddity.'
The event supports Forestry England by donating 20% of entry fees towards maintaining the nation’s forest trails for future generations to enjoy.
