About the Event

South Bay 24HR & South Bay Mini returns to Montgomery Waller Community Park in San Diego on July 23, 2027. This sixth annual endurance challenge offers runners the opportunity to test their limits over various distances and times.
The centerpiece of the event is the full 24-hour race that begins at 7 PM on a Friday evening, challenging participants with sleep deprivation before the heat sets in during daylight hours. The course itself consists of a 1.22-mile loop featuring a mix of trail (50%), grass (25%), and bike path (25%). Runners will navigate this route counter-clockwise around the park.
For those not ready for the full commitment, the South Bay Mini offers several options:
- A 12-hour night race
- A 12-hour day race
- A 6-hour daytime event
- The HEFFTY Half Marathon (covering 15.86 miles over 13 laps)
- A casual "South Bay Social" option for a more relaxed experience
The course record is held by Emilio Sanchez, who completed an impressive 103 laps or 125 miles in the previous year's event.
Additional features include:
- Campsite areas where runners can rest and regroup
- A pancake breakfast on Saturday morning from 9 AM to 10 AM for all participants
- Finisher medals awarded to everyone who completes their chosen distance
- Belt buckles presented exclusively to those completing the full 100-mile challenge
This event promises a unique blend of community spirit and competitive drive, set against the scenic backdrop of Montgomery Waller Community Park.
