Slawit Snowstorm Shuffle

About the Event

Nestled along the picturesque Huddersfield Narrow Canal, the Slaithwaite Race offers runners an immersive journey through undulating terrain and historic landmarks. Pronounced 'Slawit' by locals, this quaint village sets the stage for a challenging yet rewarding experience.
The race features four distances: 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon, catering to all levels of fitness and endurance. Each route winds through the heart of Slaithwaite before venturing into the scenic Tunnel End, a 3.5-mile tunnel that once served as a crucial passage for canal boats. This unique setting provides runners with both breathtaking views and historical insights.
Participants can expect well-stocked water and feed stations every three miles to ensure they stay hydrated and energized throughout their journey. Marshals line the course, offering encouragement and assistance wherever needed. Upon crossing the finish line in Slaithwaite Village, racers will be greeted by a warm welcome and presented with bespoke medals alongside refreshments and treats.
Registration takes place at the Slaithwaite Community Centre on Bank Gate from 7:30 AM, providing ample time to park and prepare for the event. The race itself starts just outside Waves along the canal, where runners will embark on their adventure through this charming Yorkshire landscape.
To minimize environmental impact, participants are encouraged to bring reusable cups or bottles to reduce waste at feed stations. Additionally, while most of the course is off-road, safety regulations prohibit the use of large over-ear headphones due to potential hazards from vehicles and other route users.
For those interested in carpooling options or seeking further information about race day logistics, joining the "Grim Up North Chat" Facebook group can provide valuable insights. The event’s FAQ section also offers comprehensive guidance on all aspects of the race.
With a generous 6.5-hour cut-off time and an emphasis on community spirit, this year's Slaithwaite Race promises to be an unforgettable experience for both seasoned runners and newcomers alike.
The race is licensed by the Trail Running Association, ensuring that participants can enjoy a well-organized event with all necessary safety measures in place. Whether you're tackling the 5k loop or pushing yourself through the full marathon distance, Slaithwaite Race offers an engaging challenge amidst stunning natural and man-made wonders.
