Lyke Wake Walk - W-E (guided/Supported)

About the Event

The Lyke Wake Walk, established by Bill Cowley in 1955, is an iconic challenge that traverses the expansive moorlands of North York Moors National Park. This grueling trek covers nearly 39 miles between Scarth Wood Moor and Ravenscar on the North Sea Coast, offering a unique test for seasoned hikers and adventurous souls alike.
The walk's route takes participants through some of England’s most breathtaking landscapes—rolling hills, rugged moorland, and dense forests that change with each season. The challenge lies not just in the distance but also in navigating varied terrain under strict time constraints. Participants must complete the course within 24 hours, though groups typically finish between 15 to 18 hours.
What sets this event apart is its unique format: walkers embark from Osmotherley and head east towards Ravenscar one day, then turn around at dawn for a westward journey back across the moors. This bidirectional approach allows participants to experience different aspects of the landscape each way they traverse it.
Organizers ensure a seamless start by meeting all participants early in the morning before transferring them via minibus to the opposite end of their chosen route. Once on foot, hikers are left to navigate the challenging terrain at their own pace while enjoying the camaraderie and support within the group.
Joining this event means becoming part of an exclusive community where shared experiences create lasting bonds among participants. Registration can be completed through various platforms, with WhatsApp groups serving as a hub for communication before and during the walk.
The Lyke Wake Walk is more than just a race; it’s an immersive journey into one of England's most stunning natural environments, perfect for those seeking both physical challenge and spiritual connection to the land.
