Harmeny AC 7R Multi Terrain Half Marathon

The Harmeny 7 Reservoirs Multi Terrain Half Marathon is an exhilarating winter challenge organized by Harmeny AC and set to take place on Sunday, December 6, 2026. This race offers runners the opportunity to explore diverse terrains around Harlaw and Threipmuir reservoirs in Balerno.
The event strictly limits entries to just 150 participants, ensuring a more intimate experience with ample space for each runner to enjoy the challenging course. Entry is not available on the day of the race, so early registration is essential. Should you need to withdraw before October 31st, a 50% refund will be provided; however, no refunds are given after this date.
For those who have previously excelled in this event—whether as winners or by completing it under specific time thresholds (men: 1 hour and 24 minutes, women: 1 hour and 42 minutes)—there is a guaranteed entry for the upcoming race. Elite runners may also be granted places at the discretion of the race director.
The course itself presents a varied landscape including smooth trails, rocky paths, boggy areas, shallow water crossings, and sections with tarmac surfaces. Given its winter setting in the Pentland Hills Regional Park, participants should expect to encounter rough stone trails, wet conditions, cold temperatures, fog, rain, snow, or ice. It is mandatory that all runners carry a space blanket and waterproof jacket; additional items such as hats and gloves are recommended based on weather forecasts.
The race route winds through open farmland where livestock may be present, so it's important to follow marshal instructions closely for safety reasons. Given the narrow sections of the course, courtesy towards other participants is crucial to maintain smooth passage during the event.
Travel arrangements can include carpooling due to limited parking at Harlaw and Threipmuir Car Parks or using public transportation like Lothian Buses Route No44 which passes through both Currie and Balerno. Cyclists are welcome, but bikes should be left securely at Threipmuir Farm Steading.
Participants must collect their race numbers between 08:30 am to 9:30 am on the day of the event from Threipmuir Farm Steading in Balerno. Registration and start/finish lines are conveniently located here, a short walk away from Harlaw Reservoir car park.
The 15-mile course features an obligatory checkpoint at Bonaly Car Park after approximately eight miles where runners must stop briefly to be checked out by race officials for their safety. A cut-off time of two hours applies at this point to ensure all participants can complete the race safely within expected duration limits.
Upon crossing the finish line, athletes will receive a quality medal and goody bag as well as hot soup and cakes/home baking refreshments provided by local volunteers. Trophies are awarded for first three male and female runners along with prizes in various age categories (male/female/non-binary).
