Hadrian’s Wall Half Marathon 2026: A Journey Through History and Scenery
Experience an unforgettable blend of history, scenic beauty, and challenge at the Hadrian's Wall Half Marathon on October 10th (walk) and 11th, 2026. This sixth edition of the event offers runners a unique opportunity to traverse one of Britain’s most iconic landmarks while supporting a local charity.
The race begins at Housesteads Roman Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled along Hadrian's Wall in Hexham. Participants will follow the historic Military Road for 6 miles before descending into Newbrough and navigating through tranquil woodland areas. The final stretch is flat as runners make their way to Tyne Green Country Park in Hexham.
For walkers tackling this route on Saturday, there are staggered start times between 9:00 am and 11:00 am, allowing groups of up to 75-100 participants to set off together. This ensures minimal impact on the historic site while providing a more manageable pace for those choosing to walk.
The event is also open to cani-cross enthusiasts who may bring one well-controlled dog per person; however, dogs must remain on leashes at all times throughout the race.
Participants will benefit from live chip-timing provided by Timing Up North and receive an official event T-shirt, a finisher's medal, and a snack upon completion. Shuttle buses are available for runners to transport them from Hexham town to Housesteads Roman Fort; however, pre-booking is essential as this is an A-B style race.
Public car parking is available in Hexham town center, but organizers encourage participants to consider carpooling options where possible.
This year’s event supports Heel and Toe Children's Charity, a local organization dedicated to providing life-changing therapies for children with physical disabilities. Participants can make donations during their registration process to contribute directly to this worthy cause.
