Great Barrow Challenge Day 9

About the Event

Experience the heart of Suffolk's running culture at the Great Barrow Challenge hosted by Zig Zag Running on August 6, 2027. This exclusive event takes place at the Suffolk Running Centre along Church Road in Bury St Edmunds (IP29 5AX), offering runners a unique opportunity to explore diverse routes over ten days.
Day nine of this series presents an exciting challenge with the Gallops Half Route, catering to both half marathon and full marathon participants. The route offers a scenic out-and-back course that starts from the campsite and covers 21.1 kilometers (13.1 miles), featuring a mix of roads and trails—60% road and 40% trail—with an elevation gain of 126 meters. Runners will enjoy stunning views as they climb to a high point of 108 meters before descending back towards the base at 41 meters.
Half marathon runners head out to the half turnpoint marker, trace their steps back to Suffolk Running Centre for an enjoyable and challenging loop. Full marathon participants extend this experience by completing two loops while ultra-marathon enthusiasts can add either a 5k or 10k option along with the full route. For shorter distances, both 5k and 10k runners will head out to their respective turnpoints before returning to base.
The event features convenient parking included in your entry fee, ensuring easy access for all participants. A water/aid station is located at Race HQ/Base Camp, providing essential hydration throughout the run. Each day concludes with a bespoke medal designed specifically for this series, celebrating your achievement as you cross the finish line.
To minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability, please bring your own bottles or cups for refilling. Dogs and buggies are not permitted on this route due to safety concerns related to open roads, but bone conductor headphones can be used if necessary.
Virtual entries are also available through Zig Zag Running's official website for those who wish to participate remotely while still enjoying the spirit of competition.
This event promises an engaging atmosphere with a mix of runners from various distances and skill levels. Join us at Suffolk Running Centre on August 6, 2027, for a memorable day filled with camaraderie, scenic beauty, and personal achievement.
