Great Barrow Challenge Day 2

About the Event

The Great Barrow Challenge invites runners of all abilities to experience one of its many unique routes at Suffolk Running Centre on July 30, 2027. This day marks the second installment of ten consecutive days dedicated to running enthusiasts who wish to explore various landscapes and distances.
For Day Two, participants will embark on a challenging yet rewarding journey along Windmill Way. The route is designed as a loop starting from Suffolk Running Centre’s campsite located at Church Road in Bury St Edmunds, IP29 5AX. Runners can choose between different race lengths: the half marathon (one full lap), the full marathon (two laps), or an ultra-marathon option that extends beyond two loops with additional opportunities to tackle shorter distances like a 5k or 10k.
The Windmill Way course features rolling terrain, offering runners approximately 217 meters of elevation gain over its 21.1 kilometers length. With the highest point at around 109 meters and the lowest at about 49 meters, this route presents both scenic views and testing climbs that will keep participants engaged throughout their run.
Participants can download a detailed GPX file from the "course" tab to familiarize themselves with the exact path before race day. The event organizers have ensured that parking is included in your entry fee, making it convenient for runners to arrive early and prepare adequately.
Race HQ serves as both the starting point and lap marker, where water stations will be available throughout the course. Each runner who completes their chosen distance on this particular route will receive a specially designed medal commemorating their achievement at the finish line.
To minimize waste and encourage sustainability, participants are advised to bring reusable bottles or cups for refilling during stops along the way. Additionally, runners must adhere to strict guidelines regarding pets and strollers due to safety concerns on open roads, as well as restrictions on headphone use except for bone conduction devices to ensure awareness of surroundings.
For those interested in participating virtually from anywhere around the world, Zig Zag Running offers a virtual entry option through their website's shop section. Shop | Zig Zag Running
Join us at Suffolk Running Centre and be part of an unforgettable running experience that celebrates diversity in distance while embracing the beauty and challenges of Windmill Way on July 30, 2027.
