About the Event

Set against the backdrop of East Hull, this race offers runners an opportunity to explore the scenic TransPennine Trail as it winds its way towards Hornsea. The course is designed for all levels, from beginners testing their limits on flat terrain to seasoned athletes aiming to set personal bests.
The route follows the picturesque Hornsea Rail Trail, leading participants out of the city and into the lush countryside that surrounds Hull. With a well-maintained trail surface, runners can enjoy uninterrupted views while navigating through open fields and along tranquil paths.
Key highlights include:
- Elevation: Flat terrain ideal for consistent pacing
- Terrain: Good quality trail with minimal obstacles
- Feed/drink stations every 3 miles to ensure hydration and energy replenishment
- Marshalled course ensuring safety at all times
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will receive a bespoke medal as well as additional treats that celebrate their achievement.
Registration takes place at The Community Office in Pelican Park Recreation Ground on Lambwath Road. It is recommended that runners arrive by 07:15 am to allow time for parking and registration. Parking within the club grounds costs £5, but dogs are not permitted inside the facility.
The race lineup includes various distances:
- 5k: Out-and-back course starting at 11:00 AM
- 10k: Out-and-back course beginning at 10:30 AM
- 10 Mile: Out-and-back route with a start time of 10:00 AM
- Half Marathon (21.1km): Starting promptly at 9:30 AM
- 20 Miles: Comprising two laps, kicking off at 9:00 AM
- Marathon (42.2km): A challenging route that combines the half marathon and a 10k race, with an early start of 8:30 AM
Participants are encouraged to bring reusable cups or bottles for hydration stations due to environmental considerations.
For safety reasons, large over-the-ear headphones are discouraged during this event. Instead, runners can opt for bone-conducting earphones or in-ear buds that allow ambient sounds through.
Transfers and deferrals must be managed via the race website up until 7 days before the event date. For further guidance and updates, participants should visit the FAQ section on the official site and join the "Grim Up North Chat" group on Facebook for real-time support and community engagement.
