Welcome to Heights Ultra Trail Festival (HUTFEST26), one of Yorkshire's most unique trail running events, nestled within the stunning landscapes of the Colne Valley near Huddersfield. This year marks the festival’s sixth edition and continues its tradition as a standout UK trail race experience.
The Heights Federation emphasizes collaboration in all endeavors, encapsulated by their mantra: "Working together to reach new heights." Each year, runners from various backgrounds gather to explore West Yorkshire's lesser-known but equally breathtaking moorlands, reservoirs, and trails. The terrain here offers an unparalleled ultra-trail running challenge that tests both physical endurance and mental fortitude.
HUTFEST26 features a range of trail races designed for all levels:
- 50 Mile Ultra Trail
- 50KM Ultra Trail
- 27KM Trail Run
- 10KM Trail Run
The event also includes activities and challenges that cater to families, ensuring there's something for everyone. The festival is not just a series of races but a community-focused charity event supporting local rural primary schools in the area.
Upon arrival at Broad Oak Cricket Club, you’ll find an inviting atmosphere with food vendors offering sustenance before and after your run. Post-race celebrations are part of the tradition here, allowing participants to unwind and reflect on their achievements while enjoying good company.
Getting there is straightforward:
- By Car: Main parking is available at the event center.
- By Train: The nearest station is Slaithwaite (HD7 5EB), with a short walk or bus connection from there.
- By Bus: Several routes run to Huddersfield, and local buses connect you directly to the venue.
Registration times are crucial for ensuring your spot on race day:
- 50 Mile: 06:00 – 06:45
- 50KM: 06:30 – 07:45
- 27KM: 07:30 – 08:45
- 10KM: 09:00 – 10:15
Late arrivals may miss out, so plan to arrive early.
The routes are fully marked with HUT signage and flags. Open moorland sections require basic navigation skills for longer distances (50 Mile & 50KM). Ultra entries include a waterproof route map, while shorter events have clear directions throughout the course.

- Holme Moss Summit Car Park
- Wessenden Head Road
- Standedge Cutting Car Park
- Clough Head J&I School (for 80KM route only)
- Deer Hill End Road
Feed stations offer a variety of food and drink options, ensuring runners stay fueled throughout the event. The festival is committed to sustainability and trail respect, encouraging participants to carry out their waste and treat local communities with care.
