The Greenmount Old School Community Centre, nestled along Brandlesholme Road in Greenmount (BL8 4DS), stands ready to welcome runners for an exhilarating long-distance race on Monday, September 7th, 2026. Entries open at midnight sharp and LDWA members will have exclusive access during the first month before opening up to everyone else from October 7th. Registration begins promptly at 6:45 AM with a start time of 8:00 AM for both routes. The longer route spans an impressive distance, offering runners a challenging yet rewarding journey through varied terrain and scenic landscapes. A strict nine-hour cutoff ensures all participants complete the course within this timeframe. Runners on the long route must reach the mandatory checkpoint at the 7.5-mile mark by 10:30 AM; those arriving later will be redirected to the shorter route. Safety is paramount, with event marshals monitoring runners throughout and enforcing strict adherence to the prescribed path. All participants are required to check in at each designated point along the way. If a runner fails to meet deadlines or appears unfit to continue, they may face mandatory retirement from the race by authorized officials for their own protection. Additionally, all entrants must carry essential items such as waterproof clothing, a compass, and a whistle. To participate, runners should bring appropriate gear including maps (either 1:50000 OS109 Manchester or 1:25000 West Pennine Moors Explorer 287) along with their own copy of the route description. Electronic versions are acceptable too but it's crucial to stay informed and prepared. Registration is open exclusively online, starting from September 7th at midnight for LDWA members followed by a public window in early October. Participants must be aged 14 or older on race day; however, runners under 18 years old can only take part if accompanied continuously by an adult guardian throughout the event’s duration. In case of over-subscription, interested individuals will automatically enter a waiting list but no guarantees are made about receiving entry invitations beyond this point. Refunds are available until March 6th, 2027 with standard processing fees applied depending on when changes to entries occur thereafter. Lastly, well-behaved dogs are welcome provided they adhere strictly to public liability insurance requirements and remain under close supervision by their owners at all times during the race. This ensures a safe environment for both human competitors and our four-legged friends alike. This event promises an unforgettable experience blending physical challenge with breathtaking scenery in Lancashire’s heartland.
