Chapelfell Top Fell Race

Chapelfell Top is an exhilarating 7km fell race with a challenging ascent of 400 meters, offering runners a taste of rugged terrain and stunning mountain views. Starting at St John’s Chapel just before dusk on July 13, 2027, the route takes participants straight up Chapelfell Top to its summit at an elevation of 700m. This out-and-back course demands both physical prowess and navigation skills due to its rough terrain and lack of marked paths.
Registration opens at 6pm with a chance to collect your race number and map from Chatterbox Cafe in the heart of St John’s Chapel, Weardale. The event is organized by Durham Fell Runners and supported by the FRA, ensuring an authentic fell running experience for those prepared for technical ground and steep climbs.
Participants should arrive early to park considerately within the village and ensure they have appropriate gear as kit requirements will be confirmed on race day. Joining the FRA can provide discounts and support for future events while fostering a community of like-minded runners who appreciate the beauty and challenge of fell running in Weardale.
