Carne's Full Moon Beach Run December 2026

On December 23, 2026, runners are invited to experience the breathtaking beauty of Swartvlei Beach during the 14th edition of Carné’s Full Moon Beach Run. This unique race takes place under a full moon and with low tide, creating an enchanting atmosphere that draws participants from across the country.
The event kicks off at Swartvlei Beach for the longer 21km course, which winds through some of South Africa's most stunning coastal landscapes. As runners pass Gericke’s Point—a rocky outcrop resembling a lion’s head—they will be treated to kilometers of mixed sand and rock shelves along the shore. The Benguela current provides cool water on one side while towering fossilized sandstone dunes offer dramatic scenery on the other.
For those opting for the shorter 7km course starting at Kleinkrantz village, the experience is equally memorable with a mid-run refreshment stop to rejuvenate runners before they reach the finish line. The race culminates at Wilderness NSRI Station where all participants will be greeted with medals and traditional South African fare including boerewors rolls and drinks.
With registration taking place from 17:00 at Wilderness Commons next to the Wilderness Hotel, this event promises an unforgettable night under the stars for runners of all ages. Don’t forget your headlamp if you’re tackling the longer course—this race is a bucket list item not to be missed!
