BEYOND MANCHESTER - 55KM ULTRA & 25KM TRAIL RUN EARLY BIRD PRICES

Embark on an unforgettable journey through Manchester’s hidden landscapes with BEYOND MANCHESTER, presented by WILD DEER EVENTS. Scheduled for Saturday, September 4th, 2027, this race offers two challenging routes: a 55km ultra and a 25km trail run, both venturing beyond the city's urban sprawl into its lush greenbelt.
The 55km ULTRA route begins in Cathedral Gardens and takes runners on an epic adventure through Manchester’s diverse terrain. Starting with a scenic journey along the bustling streets to the Manchester Ship Canal, participants will then follow the canal southward past Salford Quays and the iconic BBC buildings. The course transitions from one waterway to another as it crosses over to the Bridgewater Canal, offering stunning views of landmarks like the Imperial War Museum North and Old Trafford.
The route continues through Eccles before heading north towards Bolton via a disused railway track. Runners will then traverse the Irwell Sculpture Trail for more than 10 kilometers, showcasing breathtaking vistas across the valley. After this exhilarating stretch, participants make their way back into Manchester’s city center where they’ll pass historical landmarks such as cathedrals and law courts.
The 25km BEYOND MCR route follows a similar path but offers runners an experience that is equally captivating yet condensed in distance. Starting at Cathedral Gardens and heading along the Ship Canal, this trail winds through Salford Quays and past BBC buildings before crossing to the Bridgewater Canal. Runners will then pass by Eccles and follow the River Irwell back into Manchester’s city center.
Both routes feature stunning scenery and a mix of urban and rural landscapes that highlight the beauty and history of Greater Manchester. Key highlights include feed stations at strategic points along each route, providing runners with essential support including restrooms and first aid facilities:
- 55km Ultra: Three feed stations are strategically placed to ensure participants receive adequate hydration and nutrition throughout their journey.
- Feed Station 1: Waterside Bar (15.5 km)
- Feed Station 2: Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre (30.8 km)
- Feed Station 3: Drinkwater Park (47.1 km)

Participants will also enjoy a variety of amenities such as chip timing, medical support throughout the course, and finish line refreshments upon completion.
The event begins with staggered starts to manage traffic efficiently:
- The Ultra race registration opens at 6am, with an official start time of 7:00 am.
- The Trail Run registration commences at 9am, followed by a start at 10:00 am.
Race day concludes officially at 6pm when all runners must have completed their respective courses. Public transport is recommended for easy access to Cathedral Gardens, the event's starting and finishing point located in Manchester M4 3BG.
