19th National New Year Shirtless Marathon

On January 3, 2027, Daegu welcomes runners from around the globe to its vibrant streets for the National New Year Shirtless Marathon. This unique event marks the 19th edition of an exhilarating tradition that celebrates the start of a new year with a distinctive twist on athletic competition. Set in front of the Daegu Athletics Promotion Center, participants can choose between two race distances: a spirited 5K and a more challenging 10K.
Registration for this event opens on October 28, 2026, and closes on December 10, 2026. With space limited to the first 2,000 entrants who sign up, early registration is key to securing your spot in this unforgettable race day experience. The morning of January 3rd begins with a festive atmosphere as runners gather between 7:30 and 9:20 a.m., followed by the start of the larger 10K event at precisely 10:00 a.m.
Runners participating in both races will enjoy an array of perks, including an official T-shirt, timing chip, and mobile race certificate. The event's distinctive format sees male participants running shirtless while women wear sports tops, adding to the unique visual spectacle that has become synonymous with this New Year’s tradition. All runners are required to wear shorts for both races.
The 5K races begin shortly after the main 10K start: a student division kicks off at 10:05 a.m., followed by general participants at 10:10 a.m. Each race offers its own energy and excitement, with the shorter distance providing an intense but manageable challenge for all levels of runners.
