The Great Barrow Challenge invites runners of all levels to explore the scenic Suffolk countryside with its exclusive venue at Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road, Bury St Edmunds (IP29 5AX). Over ten days, participants have the flexibility to choose their distance and pace from a variety of routes. Day three features the Quackers route, offering both trail and road running through diverse terrain. The Quackers course is an exhilarating loop that covers 10.7 kilometers (6.7 miles), blending half-road and half-trail paths for a challenging yet scenic experience. With a climb of 109 meters reaching its highest point at 91 meters, the route offers both rolling hills and flat stretches, providing runners with varied terrain to enjoy. For those who opt for shorter distances, completing one loop covers a 10k distance. Half marathon participants will complete two loops, while full marathoners tackle four loops of this challenging course. Ultra marathon enthusiasts can either run four loops plus an additional section or five full loops, ensuring ample opportunities for endurance testing and personal achievement. The event is designed with the runner's comfort in mind; water stations are strategically placed at key locations along the route to keep participants hydrated throughout their journey. Additionally, bespoke medals await each participant upon completion of their chosen distance, celebrating their hard-earned accomplishment. Participants should note that no dogs or buggies are allowed on this particular course due to safety concerns regarding open roads and narrow paths. Headphones are also restricted except for bone conduction models to ensure runners remain aware of their surroundings at all times. Parking is conveniently included in the entry fee, making it easy for participants to reach the race HQ/Base Camp located near the start line where they can collect essential items before setting off on their run. The event promotes sustainability by going cupless; runners are encouraged to bring reusable bottles or cups for refills during the race. For those who wish to participate virtually, Zig Zag Running offers a virtual entry option through its website shop section, allowing individuals from anywhere in the world to join and experience this unique challenge remotely. The Great Barrow Challenge promises an unforgettable running adventure with stunning scenery, diverse terrain, and opportunities for personal growth. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, there's something here that will suit your goals and provide memorable experiences along Suffolk’s picturesque landscapes. Join us at the Suffolk Running Centre to take part in this exciting event where every step is an opportunity to explore new territory and push boundaries.
