Experience the Great Barrow Challenge at Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road in Bury St Edmunds for an unforgettable 10-day running series. This exclusive venue offers individual day entries, allowing you to choose your own adventure whether it's a quick 5k or a grueling ultra marathon. On Day Two of this challenging event, runners will tackle the Windmill Way course, which spans 21.1 kilometers (13.1 miles) in length and is entirely on paved roads. The route features a significant elevation gain with climbs reaching up to 217 meters over terrain that ranges from as low as 49 meters to as high as 109 meters. Participants can opt for the half marathon by completing one loop, while full marathon runners will face two loops of this demanding course. Ultra-marathon enthusiasts have the option to extend their journey beyond these two loops and explore additional turnpoints if they wish. For shorter distances, a "turnpoint" sign marks where 5k and 10k participants must retrace their steps back towards the finish line. A detailed GPX file can be downloaded from the event's course tab for those who want to study the route beforehand. The Great Barrow Challenge promises an array of different routes across its ten-day schedule, each with unique challenges and scenic landscapes. Other featured days include Denham Flats, Quackers, Back Quack, Dalham Kiln, Golding Hills, Chevington Chase, Mill Wind, Gallops, Hargrave, and Mount Barrow. Each day's race includes a base camp at the start where runners can access water stations throughout their run. Bespoke medals are awarded to all participants upon completion of each daily challenge. To support environmental efforts, this event has gone cupless; please bring your own reusable bottles or cups for refills during the course. Parking is included in your entry fee and no dogs or buggies are permitted on open roads to ensure safety and maintain a smooth running environment. Headphones except bone conductors are not allowed due to road conditions, ensuring everyone remains aware of their surroundings at all times. Virtual runners can participate by visiting Zig Zag Running's website for online registration options.
