ZigZag - 2027 Great Barrow Challenge - Day 1

Immerse yourself in the scenic beauty of Suffolk with the Great Barrow Challenge hosted by Zig Zag Running at the Suffolk Running Centre on Church Road, Bury St Edmunds. This 10-day race series offers runners an unparalleled opportunity to test their limits across various distances and terrains.
The event kicks off with a gentle introduction: Denham Flats, designed for those who prefer flat landscapes and smooth running conditions. Spanning 10.4 kilometers (6.5 miles) as an out-and-back route from the campsite, this course is ideal for runners of all levels seeking to set their pace without the challenge of steep inclines or technical terrain.
The Denham Flats route features a comfortable elevation gain of just 22 meters, with the highest point at 107 meters and lowest at 89 meters. The course winds through quiet lanes leading to a turnaround halfway through before retracing its steps back home. This layout ensures that runners experience minimal gradient changes throughout their journey.
For those tackling shorter distances:
- 5k Participants: Head out for approximately half the route, reaching a turnpoint and then retracing your path.

Those aiming for longer distances will find several options to suit their goals:
- 10K Runners: Complete one full loop around Denham Flats.
- Half Marathoners: Enjoy two loops of this picturesque course.
- Marathon Enthusiasts: Four complete laps await those looking for a more substantial challenge.

Ultra runners have the option to either run four loops plus an additional 5k turnpoint or five full loops, providing flexibility and variety.
