TOMMY RUNS 2026

Tommy Runs returns on Sunday, November 1st, 2026, just before Remembrance Day. This beloved annual race takes place along Seaham's picturesque seafront and offers runners the opportunity to pay tribute while challenging themselves physically.
The event kicks off at North Terrace with a moment of silence observed in front of Ray Lonsdale’s iconic "Tommy War Memorial Statue," which captures the poignant reflection of an anonymous World War I soldier during the first minute after the Armistice. The statue, officially named 1101 (Eleven-O-One), serves as more than just a memorial; it honors the archetypal private soldier known simply as Tommy.
Runners can choose between two courses: a family-friendly 5km route and a scenic 10km option for those aged 15 and older. The shorter race features closed roads with minimal elevation gain, making it ideal for runners aiming to set personal bests. Meanwhile, the longer course winds through varied terrain along Seaham’s seafront, offering stunning coastal views.
The event is timed using live chip technology provided by Timing Up North, ensuring instant results at the finish line where all participants will be awarded a medal and an event t-shirt. Snacks are also available for runners to refuel after their efforts.
Parking is easily accessible via public lots in Seaham, making it convenient for those traveling from nearby areas.
This year’s Tommy Runs supports Louie's Trust, a local charity based in Sunderland that provides essential support to children and families dealing with rare or undiagnosed medical conditions during hospital stays. By participating in the race, runners can contribute directly to this important cause through optional donations at registration.
