Welcome to the Safari Sprint, an inclusive and welcoming race that offers something for every runner or walker. Held at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on Sunday, January 17th, 2027, starting at 9:30 AM, this event is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing participants to choose their own distance within a 7-hour time frame. The course winds along the picturesque River Wear, offering stunning views of Durham Cathedral. This trail run is fully marked and navigational skills are not required, making it accessible for runners of all abilities. Whether you're aiming for a quick 3km or challenging yourself to complete multiple laps, there's no shortage of options here. For those who join as members before the event, entry fees are significantly reduced by £10 compared to full price entries. Members also receive exclusive perks such as mini-me medal pins at every race they attend and guaranteed entry for this Safari Sprint. Participants can earn themed animal medals simply by completing a minimum distance of 3km. For those who push further, there's the opportunity to collect distance-specific pins: Half-Marathon, Mega-Half (25 miles), Marathon, Ultra (70+ km) or even the challenging 50km mark. Each achievement is celebrated with a unique pin attached to your medal ribbon. Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will receive a goody bag filled with treats and refreshments. Vegan options are also available upon request at registration for those who prefer plant-based snacks. The aid station near the start/finish area provides ample hydration and energy-boosting snacks like crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, and vegan alternatives to keep you fueled throughout your run or walk. If this event marks a significant milestone in your running journey—be it your 50th marathon or any other notable achievement—we'd love to recognize that effort with a personalized number sign featuring your name and the date of accomplishment. Facilities at Durham Amateur Rowing Club include toilets, changing areas, and an unattended bag drop area near the start/finish line. Please note that while we provide these amenities, they are not monitored continuously, so valuables should be left elsewhere for safekeeping. Parking is available in nearby city center locations with pay-and-display facilities but avoid using Durham Amateur Rowing Club's parking lot as it’s reserved exclusively for club members and guests during race hours. Race day information will be sent via email a week before the event. Number pick-up happens on-site at registration prior to the start time, ensuring you're all set to go from the moment you arrive. Join us in Durham this January for an unforgettable running experience that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and the joy of moving through nature’s beauty alongside fellow athletes.
