Join us for The Other Run, an alternative race day set on the same date as the London Marathon but offering unique distance options: 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon. This event is perfect if you missed out on securing a spot in the iconic London Marathon. The races take place at Suffolk Running Centre located along Church Road in Bury St Edmunds (IP29 5AX), providing participants with an exclusive venue that caters to runners of all levels. The mass start time for all distances is set for 9am, and you have a generous seven-hour window to complete your chosen distance. For the full marathon enthusiasts, the Kirtling Route offers a picturesque journey through Suffolk’s charming villages. This route features mild undulations with an elevation gain of just 360 meters over its entire length. The course is entirely on road, covering a total distance of 42.2 kilometers (26.2 miles) in one big loop from the campsite. The half marathon follows the Windmill Route, another scenic and rolling route that covers 21.1 kilometers (13.1 miles). This distance also includes an elevation gain of 217 meters over its course length, making it a challenging yet rewarding experience for runners who prefer shorter distances but still want to enjoy beautiful countryside views. Both the full marathon and half marathon routes are officially measured courses that showcase Suffolk’s natural beauty with quiet roads. Runners will need to be mindful of traffic when stepping out onto these rural paths and should wear bright clothing for visibility. Aid stations offering drinks and snacks are placed every 10 kilometers along both routes, ensuring participants stay hydrated and fueled throughout their journey. Parking is included in your entry fee at Suffolk Running Centre, making it convenient for runners from near and far to participate without worrying about transportation logistics. At the finish line, all participants will receive a bespoke medal designed exclusively for this event. If you prefer variety, opt for the lucky dip option where you can choose between previous or finisher medals. This year’s race is going cupless, so please bring your own reusable bottles and cups to minimize waste during hydration stops. Additionally, dogs and buggies are not permitted on these open roads due to safety concerns, but runners are encouraged to engage with the scenic surroundings without distractions by leaving headphones at home unless using bone conduction technology. To commemorate this event, a special T-shirt is available for purchase through our Zig Zag Running shop. For those interested in participating virtually, head over to our website’s shop section where you can find more details and sign up options. The Other Run promises an unforgettable experience that combines scenic beauty with challenging terrain, making it the perfect addition to any runner's racing calendar.
