Immerse yourself in the scenic beauty of Durham as you take part in Day 4 of our Dun Holm 5 in 5 Days Challenge. This year, we're celebrating the city itself by featuring its landmarks on your commemorative medal. Scheduled for Sunday, May 30th, 2027, at 9:30 AM, this event offers flexibility and inclusivity, allowing participants to enter all five days together or opt into individual challenges as they please. The race begins and ends at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on Green Lane in Old Elvet. Licensed by the Trail Running Association under UK Athletics rules, runners affiliated with a UK Athletics club can enjoy an entry discount of £2.00. This 7-hour time challenge gives you full control over your distance, starting from a minimum of 3km and extending up to ultra distances beyond 50km. The route is marked for ease of navigation, making it accessible even without navigational experience. The course winds along the River Wear, offering breathtaking views of Durham Cathedral throughout its trail run classification. Whether you're looking to tackle half-marathons or venture into ultramarathon territory, this event accommodates all levels and paces with designated turn points every 3km and 5km for younger runners adhering to UK Athletics rules. Upon completion of at least the minimum distance, participants will receive a themed medal. Additional pins are available for those who run half-marathons or further distances—options include Half-Marathon, Mega-Half, Marathon, Ultra, and 50km achievements. All finishers can look forward to receiving goody bags filled with treats, including vegan-friendly options for dietary-conscious runners. A well-stocked aid table at the start/finish area ensures hydration and energy throughout your run or walk, offering a variety of snacks like crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, and more. For those marking significant milestones in their running journey, let us know ahead of time to receive personalized recognition on race day. Facilities such as toilets and changing rooms are available at the venue, with bag drop services near the start/finish line (though participants should take responsibility for any items left unattended). Parking is accessible via pay-and-display options around the city center; however, runners must not use Durham Amateur Rowing Club's parking lot. Comprehensive race day instructions will be sent out a week before the event. Remember to wear headphones responsibly and respect other path users as you traverse public footpaths during this inclusive challenge. Age-specific distance guidelines are strictly followed: 5km for ages 12-13, 6km for ages 14-15, up to no maximum limit beyond age 20. Join us in Durham on May 30th and experience the blend of history and sport along the River Wear.
